The metaphorical image of a teacher

Dear FLE 404 members,
In this assignment you need to define an English teacher from your own perspective using a metaphor or a simile and illustrate your definition by giving examples and providing details. For example, an English teacher is (like)a facilitator because he/she is in a position to help students achieve their maximum potential in their own learning process and to manage their learning process and to direct them to find ways to discover their own learning styles, their favourite ways of learning and to be successful. He is also a role model that student aspires to imitate in that he/she sets up a good example of a good language learner.

  1.  This is the most suitable symbol for a teacher as she or he is the one who is helpful, supportive, positive all the time. If a teacher has these important features then I do not expect any problems for that teacher. Smiling will always open all the doors that are hard to open, and teaching is one of them.

  2. A teacher is like “an orchestra conductor”. An orchestra conductor leads all the instruments in the band to play the musicin an organized way. In my opinion, a teacher guides the students in the process of learning in order to “perform a nice music” at the end of the teaching/learning process.

  3. the teacher is a candle in my opinion. she gives light around. she doesn't lose any light when she shares her light like a candle. and her light gets stronger and brighter as she shares her light. what ı mean is that the teacher is the person who shares her knowledge with students and she also gets advantage of their knowledge. knowledge get bigger as it is shared. teacher provides light for students to see all possible ways and gives decision for student to choose which way to go... she shows the both positive and negative sides of a way.

  4. Teacher is like “an artist” because an artist shapes out a blank paper whatever s/he wants. On the one hand, A blank paper may be shaped with very nice colors and it can be the most beautiful picture in the world or it may be shaped haphazardly without any care for it and it can be the worst picture in the world, so if the teacher brings up his/her students by giving his/her full care like an artist, his/her students can be very successful people in terms of everything in the future, but if s/he does not give importance to the bringing up of the students, they can be a thief or harmful people for the country.

  6. I can say that the teacher is the facilitator and guiding person who directs students in the learning process by considering their needs, feelings and interests. In that sense, she/he presents students with the best options regarding learning from which students choose the best one for themselves and through which they could become responsible for their own learning. She/he is also the facilitator of the relationships among the students and the organizer of a variety of classroom activities which addresses to all students in the class.

I agree with you at that point , the teacher is like an orchestra conductor and his or her aim is to produce nice music with students. That is to say, she or he both teaches and makes students enjoy his or her classes.

  9. In my opinion, a teacher is not the person who directs the students or the person who forces them to learn something. Instead the teacher is a person, who gives students the possible options and also the advantages disadvantages of those options and allows them to do their own choices. However, her duty isn’t limited to these; she is always there for her students. She provides necessary help when they ask for help. Besides, she intervenes when she figures out that the students did something wrong and if it is harmful for students. The teacher is also the person who provides a warm and stress free environment for students to feel relaxed, be ready to learn and in order for them to love the art of learning.

  10. A teacher is the one that provides good coaching for his/her students. She/he is a guide for the students. She/he directs her/his students during their learning process. She/he does not give the information directly; however, she/he teaches how students can get information. As Ruskin said, “When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece" A teacher also care about humanity.

  17. Hello!
A teacher is like the “sun” for me. It lights our past, our day and our future. It is all over the world. One can see its affects with the eyes and if you cannot see it by face, you can feel its warmth. It is necessary for everybody to live properly. Sometimes it gives us joy and sometimes the life itself.
